Grapes have gone

Breaking news:

All thanks and praise to Allah, the grapes have finally gone. Gone is the drought. Although, here comes the flood... of job offers.

One after another... right after I've signed up with Editions Didier Millet as an Assistant Editor a couple of weeks ago. Marshall Cavendish is offering me a lil more and I'm still waiting for MediacorpRadio's final reply. There's a couple of others but they're just not in my list. So for now I'll just stay put and continue playing the probation game till my mind's all settled.

Gotta thank my mom and Kotak for their undying lifetime consultation, BIG time. *mmmuuuaacckkkzz*

Okay so it's not that breaking a piece of news after all. Hehe. Ciao for now.

Grey area

Solitude's been looming over me these days
I miss him
I miss them
I don't own him
I don't own them either
How does one draw the line between love and selfishness, I wonder?

Sleepless in Singga-poh

Good God it's already 4.20 am? Where're the kambings when I need them, dammit. Reality has hit me hard... REAL hard - not that I've been glued to my screen for 5 hours straight, but that I've been "graping" for three solid months now. And the damn ticker is ticking like it's never ticked before *insert irate emoticon here*. Granted, I'm blessed with the faungkay task of adding drama to kids' lives... but that's simply a fleeting phase; I couldn't possibly journey through the end poles of Singapore my entire friggin' life now can I?

It's ironic how giving advice to someone is so simple but oh so not when the tables are turned around. So here I am, at the age of twenty-three, still brimming with the hope that I'd secure that airline job soon (an airborne waitress was never an option, oh kay), REAL soon. And that hopefully, my mom would be able to retire and age gracefully too, just like the Golden Girls. Okay maybe minus the locks. But do I need to fork out a bomb just to chuck the resume-writing duties to some never-before-heard-of company? Does it take me to have some pisang skin on or a gazillion applications before I'm fully considered? Where are all the lobangs when I need them? I don't know. As what I advised Kotak myself, patience is one helluva virtue. And so patient is what I shall be, wait and pray is what I shall do. Let's just hope the glass won't run out of my positive dose anytime soon.

And yes, another reason why the kambings just ain't jumping over the fence at all - my girlfriends. I miss my girlfriends. Long lost Rempahz and Musketeers, some whose batang hidungs I haven't seen in months. Four five months maybe? No doubt, Kotak has been there for me come rain or shine, seen me in my deepest pits and (well, weow as this may sound) highest summits too. This I must make clear to myself for sure cos he's the one who's helped me break down my walls all these years and to face my true-est emotions deep within (and I thank you for that, Dear).

But friends, it's just a whole new dimension, especially when it comes to defining one's identity. And helping to define one's identity through one's important formative years is definitely the role that friends play, to me. Now, at this phase of our lives, we all lead separate ways. Planning isn't as simple as it used to be. Neither are commitments now too. The fact that I am, by nature, more of an SMS person rather than a phone chatter doesn't help solve the situation either. But it's just so hard to talk on the phone to someone whose lives you haven't been keeping tabs on for eons. It sure doesn't mean I don't miss them... or the good ol days, I really do, and I hope we could relive them soon, especially since Rempahz' nine-year anniversary falls on today's date *hopes indefinitely once again*.

So yep, guess I won't be seeing much of the sheep until the grapes disappear and the spices and knights do arrive.

Yay to the good ol mentah days (courtesy of Sher's old blog) -

From Beppu, with love

I love it when one's native language is subconsciously translated into another's literally. It couldn't possibly get any more creative than this. So for you "purist gatekeepers" of English out there... chill out yeah? Be simple mind. ;p

"Tolong!!!!" yelled Mr Roachman. The term, kawaii, does not limit itself to the realm of insecticide boxes too, so it seems.

Flower Power

This was shot at Shidaka Lake in Beppu, Japan. The what's-its-name flower blooms only in summer. Gorgeous eh? Will post up more if I'm given the luxury of time.

We are Singga-poh

Last night, I caught "Real!Talk", this Channel NewsAsia current affairs talkshow hosted by the oh so admirable and ballooned-up-in-a-charming-way, Diana Ser. With Singapore's birthday coming around the corner, it's no surprise seeing what the episode's topic was gonna be: "What is so unique about being Singaporean?"

Amidst yawn-worthy answers like, "For better or for worse, Singaporeans are known for being kiasu," and "Singlish is what defines us when we are overseas," I couldn't help but recall this strikingly witty article I had once read in... brace yourself... Manazine (yes, the controversial magazine which seeks to "redefine men's lifestyle". In other words, for the uninitiated, it's a magazine catered mostly for homosexual males. No, I'm not THAT homophobic, just being a curious and jakun cat. That's all. Meeyow.)

And ever since my candidature in University life, I've learnt a new equation: Being Gay = Having Pure, Witty Intellect. This explains why the article titled "What Unites Us As Singaporeans" intrigued me so tremendously - it's been etched in my mind, possibly eternally. Heh.

And so, I have chosen to digress a little from pursuing my career aspirations (neverending online job applications, more like it) to include in my entry, the article I've been babbling about, since I figured it's thought-provoking in a light-hearted way. Here goes!

What Unites Us As Singaporeans?

At lunch, you start discussing what to eat for dinner.

You think Singapore is the education hub for Asia, yet you value overseas degrees higher.

When speaking to foreigners, you somehow feel a need to adopt an accent. (If you're a DJ, this happens even when you're not speaking to foreigners.)

You're forever talking about businesses you want to set up but will probably never get around to starting.

You want Singapore to be the media hub for Asia, yet you do not allow an Emmy Award winning series on TV. (go figure!)

You think being an entrepreneur is setting up a bubble tea/Portugese egg tartgao luck/porridge shop right next to an existing bubble tea/Portugese egg tart/gao luck/porridge shop.

You separate food into 2 basic groups: "heaty" and "cooling".

You marry for the real estate breaks.

You have kids for the tax advantages.

You move to where you want your child to go to school.

You feel you can't walk around naked in your own flat. (context, people... context)

You force your child to take Speech and Drama classes, but pray they won't wind up in Arts later on.

You find it impossible to make suggestions without drawing a fishbone chart first.

You think people are inconsiderate when they don't leave their table immediately after eating at the food court but think you have every right to take 25 bites to finish the last red bean in your ice kachang.

It actually makes a difference to you being called an "NSMan" rather than a "Reservist". (Is that true, guys?)

You've eaten more times at the Esplanade than you've actually seen shows there.

You need campaigns to tell you how to be courteous, to flush toilets, have sex, etc.

You always feel oddly hungry at 11pm, and are willing to drive to far away places for supper.

You'll gladly spend $100,000 on a car, but will go to great lengths to save a few bucks on ERP charges or even a few cents on a parking coupon.

You work at McDonald's when you're old rather than young.

You've started to refer to foreign employees as "talent" instead of "expatriates".

At the dinner table, you're always discussing which other food places serve better versions of what you're eating. (oh so true!!)

You think your boyfriend doesn't really love you unless he gives you part of his liver. (Nice one there. Great that they made it together though.)

No matter how old you are, you keep associating people with their secondary schools. (Right, Kotak? Hehe.)

You believe you can generate "creativity" through rules and committees.

Your mother probably can't speak your "mother tongue".

You'd rather drink your own pee than pay someone more for water.

You have an automatic censor in your head which categorises people you meet into stayer/quitter/cosmopolitan/heartlander/normal/express/gifted. (Talk about social construction of reality!)

You can never quite remember what "the core values" of Singaporeans are.

So yeah, that's as much as I can digress for now. Ciao chinchao!
